About Being Water

The journey of a thousand miles begin with one step.

Lao-Tzu

Being water is a space designed to explore the connection between awareness, resilience, selflessness, and a fulfilling lifestyle. On it, the reader/practitioner will find:

  • Short articles summarizing and interpreting key advice from books on the topics mentioned above;
  • My schedule of yoga classes and special events.
Under the label awareness, subtopics such as knowing oneself (noticing projections, identifying blind spots), being mindful of the setting you are operating (understanding opportunities and risks), unveiling new perspectives (boosting creativity, exchange) are presented.

Under the caption resilience, strategies for creating/quitting habits, embracing resistance, assessing the turn around the point are shown.

Under the domain selflessness, means/ways to prioritize a generous/horizon-view attitude rather than a selfish/navel-gazing behavior are depicted.

Following my background in finance and yoga, the ideas and practices are explained using concepts and expressions from these areas. This choice is twofold:

  • improve communication between these two apparently unrelated words;
  • speak the language of the people who the content of this blog might be of interest, e.g. executives interested in philosophy, psychology, breathing techniques, and physical exercises targeting the development of a healthier lifestyle.
Articles and schedules are updated monthly. If you would like to keep posted on these updates, you may follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or subscribe to my newsletter. For feedback, class requests, and any other matter, please contact me at beingwatermail@gmail.com.

ABOUT ME

I am Fernanda Rubim, born and raised in Brazil, having lived and worked in Canada and Luxembourg (where I am currently settled). I teach yoga at studios and privately. Next to it, I work as a tax advisor in a multinational. I have a degree in Law and in Journalism and several hours of training in Ashtanga Yoga.

My articles and classes combine these influences and also integrate teachings from philosophy and psychology, which I am a dedicated student, as well as from outdoor sports which I practice (running, cycling, surfing).

I seek in my yoga practice and classes to move in accordance with the breath as well as to alternate energetic/challenging sequences aimed at building strength with cooling/gentle flows intended to enhance flexibility. I look for inclusion and accessibility through the offer of modifications, hands-on assists and exploration of the sense of community and belonging.
